Oh hi, about twitter and other social medias downfall.
I remember (to read in a old man voice) a few years ago, when tumblr appeared, I thought "okay tumblr isn't really an art website, I think I miss the good old internet days" lot of people told me I was just old and angry. (I am)

I mean, I started posting art on internet with the gorillaz fandom. It was mostly personal websites (gorillaz.it I miss you) where people sent their fanarts via mail so their drawings could be posted on the website! A lot of us had to learn html to make our own unique websites, not even talking about those who were doing flash animation (rip) ... And you could post anything! Even the most fucked up erotic ships!
For some reasons, we all moved to deviantart and its when they banned porn it went downhill...
Luckily enough there were enough platforms to post if one of them disappeared: y!gallery, sheezyart, livejournal, deadjournal, msngroups, furaffinity, inkbunny, ...
But now what do we have left? Most of these websites died.
Instagram and twitter have shit algorithms, insta and FB dont allow porn, you cant personalize anything and any attempt to be original in there will just lead you in a empty corner where your public cant find you and you cant find your public.
We moved from tumblr because of the porn ban. Personally I (not the only one who did) moved because of the harassment and how poorly it was managed.

And on twitter, the same problem appeared, but with worse consequences: its pretty easy to harass someone en masse, there's little to no consequence to harass someone (specially against minorities) and its not too hard to create numerous accounts since there's no ip ban.
A few years ago, when I told people "twitter will die someday" I got mocked. I was the paranoid old geezer that was blabbing about the end of the world. Myspace, livejournal, geocities... they all died, why not twitter?

I'm both worried about twitter (and other social media)'s death, and also I don't care.
Worried because, wow, another website where I can share art, view art, meet people & stay in contact with friends that's going to end. Not worried because, we, as artists, and person exist outside these shitty websites. Time to go back to make our own websites, back to forums. Back to conventions. This is not over.

Especially as NSFW artists and/or sex workers, it's so tiring seeing these sites destroy themselves over and over again.. it seems to get faster too! Deviantart lasted a decade, livejournal too, tumblr lasted half a decade after that, then twitter took a couple years...

well that's nice thing about dreamwidth, its already fairly stable and has no need for massive growth to survive on an app market for investors. Back to making multiple accounts on diff sites for multi purposes!
